As part of the Art In The Heart scheme, co-ordinated by Birmingham Museums Trust, Philip Monks, poet-in-residence for the project, ran poetry workshops in a number of galleries, museums and arts venues. The poetry generated was so good that we thought it deserved a wider ciculation.
Some of the poems appear in the Anthology Iris of a Peeping Eye
published in October 2013, but that was limited to one poem per venue, so many excellent poems remain to be experienced by a wider audience. Here are some of those poems.
As well as the variety of poems on this website, you may be interested to look at the art works and places that inspired the writing. Some of the images are available on the related venue websites, but I strongly urge you to go and see the art works in person; they are exhibited in such wonderful places. Much of the writing activity, including the workshops, poetry commissions and book publication and launch has been made possible by the invaluable support of Writing West Midlands, the literature development organisation for the region.
A principal funder of The Art In The Heart Scheme has been Arts Council England.
